The deadline is coming up fast for employers who are required by OSHA to post the prior year’s

place or places where notices to employees are customarily posted” by Feb. 1 – and must stay posted until April 30.
Employers who have 10 or fewer workers, including temporary or part-time employees, or those in certain low-hazard industries are exempt from the requirement.
Employers also must maintain injury and illness records for five years at their worksites, and provide copies, if requested, to current or former employees or their representatives.

Has Your Electric Utility Been Impacted By Flooding?

1/7/2025

owa’s electric distribution systems are increasingly vulnerable to flood-related disruptions, posing challenges to the reliability of power delivery, electric system resilience, and community safety. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), in collaboration with the Iowa State Energy Office, Iowa Flood Center, and Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, is leading a Grid Resilience Technical Assistance Project to support Iowa’s utilities in addressing these challenges. This technical assistance project is funded by the Grid Deployment Office.

The project will develop case studies and a comprehensive guide to help utilities make informed, data-driven investments in flood resilience. Participating utilities will benefit from:
·  Identifying vulnerable assets by integrating flood risk data with utility infrastructure locations.
·  Accessing advanced resilience modeling and evaluation strategies to mitigate flood risks.
·  Receiving actionable guidance tailored to their specific needs.

We are currently looking for utilities in counties affected by recent flooding (see full list below). Participation will involve sharing insights and relevant data to create actionable case studies and investment frameworks. The project timeline is January–June 2025, with flexibility to align with utility priorities.
Call to Action:
If your utility is interested in participating or learning more, please contact Gayathri Krishnamoorthy at [email protected] by January 10, 2025.

Deadline Approaching for Next Round of Loan Applications

1/1/2025

Iowa Energy Center is accepting applications for utility infrastructure projects in disaster-impacted counties

An update to the Energy Infrastructure Revolving Loan Program (EIRLP) accommodated assistance for utility infrastructure improvements in counties impacted by 2024 natural disasters. Other eligible projects allowed under the EIRLP not related to disaster recovery will still be accepted and reviewed.

The next loan application deadline is January 9, 2025.

Municipal electric utilities, municipal natural gas utilities and rural electric cooperatives are eligible for unique loans tailored to assist with specified distribution and/or transmission infrastructure needs that exist in presidentially declared disaster counties. A map of these counties is available here.

Utility projects in the disaster impacted counties that improve the applicant’s preparedness for future severe weather events and natural disasters are eligible for a zero percent interest loan. The interest rate is subject to negotiation by the Iowa Energy Center (IEC) if a utility in a disaster-impacted county and its customers did not experience financial impacts or damage from the disaster. Disaster-impacted utilities may use loan proceeds for local match and/or cash flow to leverage federal hazard mitigation assistance funding. Additional details about the program and its offering for utility infrastructure in disaster-impacted counties may be found in the EIRLP policies and procedures handbook, Appendix A.

Applications for the EIRLP are accepted through IowaGrants.gov.
Additional deadlines for consideration at an IEC Board meeting are as follows:
