A number of grant programs from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) will be coordinated/managed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). IEDA staff have recently released a timeline for when they expect these different programs to be rolled out and open for applications. In response to the rise in the number of fatalities due to heat, OSHA published new enforcement policy regarding Heat Stress in April 2022.
The focus of this webinar is to discuss the employer’s responsibilities to those working in hot environments and to assist in creating a Heat Illness Prevention Plan. This plan must be made site-specific and all employees that have the potential to be exposed to hot working environments must be trained using your specific plan. After a successful inaugural event in 2022, the Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC), in partnership with the Iowa Association for Energy Efficiency (IAEE), will hold the second annual Energy Trends Workshop. With the need for residents and businesses to reduce their use of fossil fuels sooner rather than later, this one-day workshop focuses on current and future energy trends in Iowa. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from and network with energy experts, consultants, industry professionals and government agencies with the goal of elevating the energy conversation in Iowa. The safety standards for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (formerly aerial lifts) and most material moving heavy equipment have been revised. The updated training and operating requirements include hazard recognition, assessing work site conditions, fall protection, developing safe use programs and a review of the operator’s manual including operator and supervisor responsibilities. IAMU is conducting classes at our location. Sessions include classroom, testing and hands-on practical examinations. Successful operators will be provided with a certificate and a wallet card. The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Electricity (OE) today issued a Request for Information (RFI) soliciting feedback from transformer manufacturers, utilities, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other applicable stakeholders. DOE seeks responses regarding distribution and power transformers that can support the future grid and help avoid lock-in with outdated, expensive technologies.

Submit responses to this RFI (DE-FOA-0003021) to RFI-3021@NETL.DOE.GOV no later than 5:00 pm (ET) on May 5th, 2023. The CFI program is a new competitive grant program created to strategically deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure to communities, in addition to along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). CFI Program investments aim to increase infrastructure accessible to drivers of electric, hydrogen, propane, and natural gas vehicles. This program provides two funding categories of grants: (1) Community Charging and Fueling Grants (Community Program); and (2) Alternative Fuel Corridor Grants (Corridor Program). This first round of funding makes $700 million of funding available to deploy infrastructure projects in urban and rural communities in publicly accessible locations, including downtown areas and local neighborhoods, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged communities. Eligible applicants include but are not limited to state government entities, city and county governments, public universities, metropolitan planning organizations, etc. The application deadline for this round is May 30, 2023. Inclusion of a “dig once” philosophy to maximize the societal and economic benefits of a project while minimizing the cost and disruption of construction by considering and installing for current needs and as many of the reasonably foreseeable future needs, as practicable.
