The Iowa Economic Development Authority has announced that 20 Iowa cities, including eight Iowa municipal utility communities, will participate in the IEDA’s City Energy Management Program.

John Norris has informed President Obama that he intends to resign his seat on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) effective August 20th. Norris, an Iowa native and former member of the Iowa Utility Board, was appointed to the post by Obama 2010. For more information, read APPA's Public Power Weekly. A Whiting, Iowa area farmer has installed solar arrays to provide power for the center pivot irrigation system on a 160-acre tract of land. And Dolf Ivener says he's considering using solar to power a similar irrigation system at another farm near Hornick next year. For more information, read the online story in the Omaha World-Herald.

Farmer's Electric Cooperative of Kalona unveiled their latest solar project last week, holding an open house for the 800 kW array on 4.5 acres of land near Kalona.
The popularity of a solar garden owned by Traer Municipal Utilities has seen the project expand earlier this summer. In June, Traer added another 20kW of DC generation to their community-owned solar array. Last fall, the first phase of the project consisting of 40kW was installed (click here for previous article in The Informer). To date, a total of 52 TMU customers have purchased a portion of the shared array.
