On December 8, APGA staff held a webinar for its members to provide an overview of the association’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts over the past year. Dave Schryver, APGA’s Executive Vice President, and Scott Morrison and Dan Lapato, APGA’s Directors of Government Affairs, began the webinar with a discussion of legislative efforts APGA has been involved in over the past year. Those issues include LNG export, natural gas vehicles, Section 5 Reform, tax-exempt financing, and Section 433, which is also known as the Fossil Fuel Rule. The recorded webinar is available HERE. At the tail end of September USA Today and Gannett papers published stories in Iowa and around the country about aging pipelines. At that time IAMU staff alerted its gas members of the pending stories and how to respond to customer questions. As a follow-up to that story and what is really happening underground with our pipelines, there is an interesting story in the December issue of the Pipeline & Gas Journal. 2014 is quickly coming to an end. It has been a very busy year for many of our member utilities. New customer installations, system improvements, storm restoration, vacations, and numerous other events make the year fly by. Just as you finish one year, the next has to be organized. The holiday season is upon us! IAMU will be closed on Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25th) and New Year's Day (Thursday, December 31st) but will be open on December 26th and January 2nd.
The Safe Drinking Water Act was passed 40 years ago, on December 16, 1974. EPA has an interactive calendar, The Evolution of the Safe Drinking Water Act, which lists the various milestones in public health protection related to drinking water. It begins in 1855, when epidemiologist Dr. John Snow proved that cholera was a waterborne disease by linking an outbreak of illness in London to a public well that was contaminated by sewage. http://www2.epa.gov/safedrinkingwater40/evolution-safe-drinking-water-act Larry Sorensen of Cedar Falls, a long-time employee of the Cedar Falls Utilities gas utility, passed away Tuesday in Waterloo.
