The Electric Utility System Operation Short Course, presented by A.R. "Skip" Collier of Professional Training Systems, Inc., will be held July 7–9, 2026, at IAMU in Ankeny. This three-day course is a favorite for good reason: it takes complex electrical concepts and makes them genuinely accessible, no matter your background or role.
This course is designed for any utility employee who would benefit from a stronger understanding of how the electric system works — including staff in legal, rates, engineering, purchasing, marketing, customer service, finance, accounting, safety, and more. If you've ever wanted to walk past a substation and actually know what you're looking at, this class is for you.
Line Maintainer and Line Repairer apprentices will receive 21 Basic OJT Hours for completing the course.
