Beginning January 1, 2015, there was a change to what covered employers are required to report to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Employers will now be required to report all work-related fatalities within 8 hours and all in-patient hospitalizations, amputations, and losses of an eye within 24 hours of finding about the incident. The Midwestern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture will be holding its 69th annual conference and trade show in Council Bluffs on January 28-30. The Conference and Trade Show will feature experts in the field and laboratory. The presentations will cover subjects that pertain to utilities and urban and commercial forestry. The trade show will include exhibitors from all aspects of the tree care and management field.

The New Year always brings a lot of ideas and resolutions to the table. Your utility doesn’t have to worry about losing weight, exercising more, or learning a new skill, but there are resolutions relevant to the utility business. One resolution that might be on your utilities list is to be more visible. IAMU members should note that the annual deadline for posting the OSHA 300A injury summary is February 1, 2015. All incidents of work-related injuries and illnesses must also be logged within seven days (Form 300) and detailed injury and illness reports for each entry (Form 301) must also be completed.
