Working with the Regional Energy Manager, each participant will:
- Enroll city-owned buildings into the Iowa Public Building Benchmarking Program
- Establish a City Energy Advisory Team
- Coordinate meetings with utilities and city management to discuss energy priorities
- Review public building operation and maintenance procedures
- Develop energy efficient procurement guidelines
- Set energy reduction goals
- Develop a city Energy Action Plan
- Identify cost-effective projects to reduce energy use and costs
- Train staff on energy management best practices appropriate for your operations
- Assist in implementing projects, including specifying purchases and identifying sources of funding
- Track energy savings over time to gauge success
- Ensure understanding of and commitment to long-term energy savings by all levels of municipal staff
While the IEDA program provides funding for the technical assistance provided by the regional energy manager, the communities will be funding implementation of selected recommended measures.
