Dunn joined the Ames Water and Pollution Control Department in 1995 as an environmental engineer. He was named assistant director in 1999 and became department director in 2007. Dunn initiated the infrastructure study which ultimately led to the construction of the City’s new water treatment plant on East 13th Street, expected to become operational in the summer of 2017. This is the third time Dunn has been honored by his peers across the state. He twice received the Outstanding Service to the Iowa Section Award; in 2007, and again in 2015. Dunn also served on the Section’s Board of Trustees for six years, including serving as Chairman of the Board in 2012-2013.
Dunn has been active in numerous leadership roles within the statewide water association. He was the Section’s first webmaster, served on the Public Information Committee, the Student Activities Committee, and on the Residuals Handling Committee. He is currently the chair of the Section’s Management Committee where he facilitates a statewide leadership program for future leaders in Iowa’s water profession. He also is serving on the American Water Works Association’s national Section Education Award Committee.
Dunn is a two-time graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. He and his wife Erika live in Ames.
