With Aug. 11 almost here, the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU) hopes this date on the calendar, 8/11, will serve as a natural reminder for residents to call 811 (or visit http://iowaonecall.com/) prior to any digging project to have underground utility lines marked. Every few minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without first calling 811.
IAMU encourages its members to observe 811 Day and spread the message about the importance of calling (or clicking) before you dig. IAMU will be sharing a social media post for 811 Day on its Facebook page. You may share it on your Facebook page from the IAMU page. If you would like the post ahead of time, download the image below.
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages. Every digging project, no matter how large or small, warrants a call to 811. Installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree and laying a patio are all examples of digging projects that need a call to 811 before starting.
