The development of the Iowa Energy Plan took a major step forward last week with the convening of the four working groups that will provide input to the plan. The Iowa Energy Plan will “set state priorities and provide strategic guidance for decision-making while working to encourage energy, economic, and environmental benefits through the goals and recommendations it sets forth. The Iowa Energy Plan is being developed through collaboration between the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Department of Transportation. The goal is to have the plan finalized by November 2016.
There are four working groups that represent the foundational pillars of the plan—economic development and energy careers; Iowa’s energy resources; transportation and infrastructure; and energy efficiency and conservation. Each working group contains twelve subject matter experts that were chosen through a competitive application process. The working groups will meet five times between now and June. All of the working group meetings are open to the public to listen to the discussion.
In addition to the working groups, the state will receive public input on the plan through a series of six public forums to be held throughout the state from late March through mid April. IAMU members are encouraged to attend a public forum, and share the importance of municipal utilities in providing reliable and affordable electricity and natural gas to consumers in the state.
