Beginning January 1, 2022, political subdivisions and their employees are prohibited from using public funds for lodging or hosting conferences, meetings, or banquets at locations where lodging is available unless the location has first been certified as having completed human traffic prevention training through the Iowa Office to Combat Human Trafficking. Before expending or committing any public funds, public employers will first have to confirm a provider’s current certification status through the Office to Combat Human Trafficking’s website.
HF 2259 (2020), requiring hotel human trafficking prevention training, was signed into law by Governor Reynolds on June 29, 2020.[1] Under the new law, lodging providers may certify to the commission that each one of their employees has completed approved human trafficking prevention training.
