To hear more from IEDA about the City Energy Management Program and the Iowa Public Building Benchmarking Program, plan on attending IAMU’s annual energy conference on November 4-5 at the Holiday Inn – Airport & Conference Center in Des Moines.
Midwest Energy News recently recognized Bloomfield for its efficiency efforts through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s City Energy Management Program. This program has helped nineteen Iowa cities, including the seven municipal utility communities of Algona, Bloomfield, Denison, Guthrie Center, Independence, Wall Lake and Waverly, identify opportunities to reduce energy costs in city-owned buildings, exterior lighting, and water/wastewater facilities. Through a grant from the US Department of Energy, IEDA has provided a regional energy manager to assist these cities in various aspects of energy efficiency, including enrolling buildings in the Iowa Public Building Benchmarking Program, setting energy reduction goals, developing an energy action plan, identifying cost-effective energy efficiency projects, and implementing selected projects.
