The Joint Operating Committee of NMPP Energy, a utility joint-action agency headquartered in Lincoln, Neb., selected Bob Poehling as its new executive director and chief executive officer, effective April 6. Poehling succeeds Gary Stauffer, who in November announced his departure after more than 11 years with the joint action agency.
“I am looking forward to working with the staff of NMPP Energy and all of its member communities,” said Poehling. “There are so many great things going on in this organization and I’m excited to be part of its continued success.”
A national utility management search firm assisted NMPP Energy in its search process.
Poehling has more than 25 years’ experience in the power and natural gas industry. Since 2010, he has served as general manager of the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) and its affiliate the Kansas Municipal Gas Agency (KMGA). KMEA, a municipal joint-action agency based in Overland Park, Kan., provides electricity, finances and constructs power projects and negotiates transmission of electricity for 77 municipal members. KMGA provides natural gas products and services to 39 municipalities.
Under Poehling’s leadership, KMEA added 12 member cities and increased its throughput electric load by 170 megawatts.
He brings extensive experience in day-to-day operations of public power and municipal natural gas utility operations, business development, risk management and commodity marketing to the NMPP Energy organizations.
“We’re very excited to have Bob lead the organizations of NMPP Energy into the future,” said Joint Operating Committee Chairman Marv Schultes, Hastings, Neb. “His leadership background in the power and natural gas industry is well suited for our uniquely multi-faceted joint-action agency.”
Poehling, a Nebraska native, holds a bachelor of science-business administration degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
NMPP Energy is a joint action agency headquartered in Lincoln, Neb., and is composed of four entities: Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN), a wholesale electricity supply organization; National Public Gas Agency (NPGA), a wholesale natural gas supplier; Public Alliance for Community Energy (ACE), a retail natural gas supplier and Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP), a non-profit utility-related services provider.
