A new networking and education event has been set for IAMU members with broadband utilities. The Fall Broadband Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the IAMU Office and Training Complex in Ankeny.
Among the topics to be discussed is one that will be dominating the landscape for cable TV providers this fall-retransmission consent. Every three years, TV stations and cable operators negotiate new agreements that allow carriage of the station's off-air signals on cable systems. The issue has become increasingly thorny over the past several years as broadcasters demand higher and higher fees for retransmission consent, further driving up the costs for operators. The opening "super-session" of the meeting will deal with this urgent topic.
The cost to attend is just $25, which includes snacks and beverages during breaks and lunch.

12:30 pm-Municipal Transport Networks: A number of IAMU members have been discussing the concept of a shared fiber transport network to lower the costs of sharing services. We’ll discuss this concept and how it might benefit municipal broadband utilities across Iowa.
